Mental Health & Wellbeing

At The Chantry School, we place great importance on supporting the mental health and wellbeing of every pupil. We know that young people learn best when they feel safe, understood and valued, and we take a whole-school approach to promoting emotional resilience, positive relationships and a culture of openness.

We recognise that pupils can experience challenges at different stages of their lives. Our responsibility is to notice early, listen carefully and respond with sensitivity. We aim to reduce stigma around mental health and ensure every pupil knows that their voice matters and that support is always available.

To help us achieve this, we have dedicated structures in place:

  • A Mental Health Lead, who coordinates our whole-school approach, ensures staff training, and oversees support for pupils who may need more targeted help.
  • A Pupil Action Group for Mental Health and Wellbeing, giving pupils a genuine voice in shaping how we support them, raising awareness across the school, and helping to create a culture where it’s normal to talk about how you feel.

Thriving Pupils

We strive to create an environment where every pupil can thrive academically, socially and emotionally by:

  • Embedding wellbeing into our teaching, pastoral systems and daily routines
  • Offering early, appropriate support through our pastoral and safeguarding teams
  • Working closely with families and external agencies when specialist help is needed
  • Ensuring clear pathways for pupils who need help, whether inside or outside school
