Supporting Pupils with Additional Needs

At The Chantry School, we value every pupil as an individual. Our SEND support is built on helping pupils feel understood, included and confident, removing barriers so they can fully access learning and school life.

Our SEND team

Our SEND team, led by the SENCO and supported by skilled Teaching Assistants, works closely with pupils, families and staff to provide support based on clear assessment.

Most support is delivered in the classroom through adaptive teaching and close collaboration with subject teachers. Where needed, we also offer targeted short-term interventions including literacy, numeracy, handwriting, EAL, communication, social skills and emotional literacy.

Learning Support Unit

Our Learning Support Unit provides a calm, structured space for pupils who benefit from additional support with social, emotional or self-regulation needs. Open throughout the school day, including break and lunch, it offers a safe environment where pupils can reset and feel ready to learn.

We work closely with partner primary schools to ensure a smooth transition into Year 7 and with further education providers to support pupils moving on. We also collaborate with external professionals, including Educational Psychologists and specialist teams, to ensure pupils receive the right support at the right time.

Our aim is simple: every pupil should feel noticed, listened to and supported to flourish
