Homework at The Chantry School

Key routines

At The Chantry School, homework is one of the key routines that helps our pupils consolidate their learning, practise essential knowledge and develop the independence they need to thrive at GCSE and beyond. It reinforces what happens in the classroom, stretches thinking, and gives pupils a chance to take ownership of their progress.

Whether it is revising key concepts, preparing ideas for the next lesson, or completing a short written task, homework supports pupils in building the habits of self-discipline, curiosity and resilience that sit at the heart of successful learning.

Our approach is balanced and purposeful

Teachers set meaningful tasks that connect directly to classroom learning, and pupils are supported to organise themselves through clear instructions, appropriate deadlines and the use of Arbor.

Homework at KS3 is short and focused, while KS4 tasks prepare pupils for the demands of examinations and extended study. We also recognise the importance of wellbeing, so any homework set over the holidays comes with extended deadlines to allow pupils time to rest and recharge.

Ultimately, homework is a partnership between school, pupil and home, designed to help every pupil feel confident, capable and ready for the next step in their learning journey.  Homework timetables are available to view below.

GCSE Results Day 2026: Press Release

Pupils from The Chantry School celebrate another strong year of GCSE results. 167 pupils took GCSEs this summer, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements.

We are proud to share with you some excellent headline figures: 70% of pupils achieved 5 GCES including English and maths at Grade 4 and above.

As always, there are many pupils who have attained very highly and many more who have achieved their ambitious target grades.

Thes results are testament to the pupils’ hard work. Throughout their GCSE course, they have been resilient and inspiring. I’d also like to recognise and thank their families’ support throughout their journey, and, of course, the whole staff at The Chantry for their consistent, unwavering kindness, care, and dedication for our young people which has played a vital role in their success. We wish them every success and happiness for their next chapter.
