Support and Early help

Level one – Safeguarding for all.

Tutor Support

Our form tutors are best placed to provide pastoral support in school. Forms tutors have daily contact with their form groups, they know the young people in their form groups well and will have establish a good relationship with them. Form tutors should be the first port of call for parents who are seeking additional support for their child or wish to discuss their pastoral welfare. Please call our main office 01886 887100 or email form tutors directly. All email addresses at The Chantry start with the member of staff initial followed by their surname then @chantryschool.com For example: fbloggs@chantryschool.com

Pastoral Support Area

Our Pastoral Support Area (or PSU) is staffed by members of our Pastoral, Wellbeing and Safeguarding Team. Emotional and wellbeing support is provided or signposted for any pupil in school who has a concern or needs additional support. It is located upstairs in the main building to the left of the lift.

Chat Health is a Starting Well Worcestershire NHS service for young people. If you are aged 11-19 years old, you can text the number below to speak to a school nurse for confidential advice and support on a range of health and wellbeing issues. Text: 07507331750

Level two – This support and these services are accessed via our own internal referral system.

Wellbeing Support

This combined support enables pupils to build greater resilience and learn useful coping strategies. Internal school referral by your child’s Head of Year

Mentoring

The Chantry School benefits from the support of a number of outside agencies when providing mentoring for some of our young people. These may include: YMCA, Mentorlink and Social Prescribers Pastoral Mentoring is also provided by some members of our trained Pastoral Support Team. Referrals are made through Heads of Year.

Peer Mentoring

The Chantry School offers Peer Mentoring to some pupils in Year 7. Our trained Yr10 mentees help to ease transition to secondary school and help.

WEST

The Wellbeing and Emotional Support Teams (WEST) in schools service is designed to help children and young people ages 5-18 years access mental health and wellbeing support early on in educational settings. It's all about ensuring children and young people can get access to the right help as early as possible. “An early intervention service integrated in education settings to promote children and young people’s emotional wellbeing, keeping the child’s voice at the heart.” There are lots of different clinicians and support staff who work in the team who have different expertise, but all work well together. In the team there are: Education mental health practitioners Senior practitioners, Clinical leads, Operational leads, Service manager, Support staff.

SEND Support

All teachers at The Chantry School endeavour to make sure that young people with SEND get the support they need – this means that they do everything they can to meet each young person’s needs through quality first teaching. The school will also ensure that young people with SEND engage in the activities of the school alongside pupils who do not have SEND. Heads of Year and the SENDCo will monitor academic progress as well as emotional well-being and participation in the daily life of the school. The school will inform parents/carers when they are making special educational provision for a pupil and review the provision termly. The passport process provides pupils and parents/carers with the opportunity to attend a termly meeting with the SENDCo (or an appropriate member of staff). The purpose of this meeting is to review the provisions in place, look at new strategies and set targets together for the new term. Due to the number of reviews scheduled, unfortunately timings cannot always be rescheduled, however a questionnaire is sent out to collect the views of parents/carers that are unable to attend. For all enquiries, please contact Miss Robinson by email: rrobinson@chantryschool.com

Level three – This support is accessed via a referral to external agencies. For some of these organisations it is possible to selfrefer or obtain a referral via your GP.

Finding External Support for Young Carers

The Children’s Society has a great search tool on their site that allows you, young people, or families to find a local support service that can help Young Carers. Local projects can offer professional guidance, connect young carers with other young carers, and provide important breaks from caring responsibilities.

Many children and young people do not identify themselves as a Young Carer as it is ‘’just something they do’’, and don’t realise that they can access support through local projects. We would like to suggest that DSLs and Mental Health Leads display information that can enable a pupil to recognise whether they are a Young Carer, as well as information that can support them.
